- Go to Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods (if there's no Mods folder, create it). Inside it you should have two things: a file called Resources.cfg and a folder called unpackedmod (you'll never put anything in this folder, otherwise some stuff might not work, ok?)
- Right click Resources.cfg > Open With > Notepad and make sure it looks like this:

Mod Types

.package: Most of what you download should come like this. This type of file carries custom content like clothing, genetics, objects, mods, etc.

.pyo/.py: These are script modifications. They come compressed as .zip files and you CAN'T unzip them. Meaning you have to open it and check if it's a .package or .pyo mod. Being a .pyo one, you have to put the .zip file inside Mods folder, but you can't put them inside any other if you're crazy about organizing your mods folder. Example: you can't put it in 'The Sims 4/Mods/Script Mods', it has to be in 'The Sims 4/Mods'

.ts4script: These are also script modifications. You have to unzip them and put the .ts4script file inside your main Mods folder or down just one level. Examples: you can put it inside 'The Sims 4/Mods' or 'The Sims 4/Mods/Script Mods', but you can't put in inside 'The Sims 4/Mods/TS4SCRIPT MODS/Social Mods'

Note: These folders mentioned above (besides the main Mods folder) are not required, you can organize your stuff however you want.

Installing Sims and Lots

So, you saw someone shared a beautiful Sim or lot and they didn't put their Origin ID so you can find it in the gallery and instead put a .zip/.rar file for download with some weird files in it, right? These are called Tray Files. Here's what you have to do:

- Go to DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 4Tray;
- Unzip everything in there;
- There you go, everything should be in your library now.

Note: the person might have used custom content, so if the sim/lot isn't showing in your gallery, to fix that:

- Open the Gallery;
- Click on My Library as you usually would;
- On the left there's a bar full of options;
- Click on 'Advanced', the last one;
- Mark 'Include Custom Content';
- Now everything should show up!

Troubleshoot

'I placed a lot and everything was messed up. Why'

The person who you downloaded the lot from might have used cheats when building it, like moveobjects. If you place the lot with the cheat turned off things will get messy. This will prevent those objects that were made bigger with the cheat to get smaller. Here's what you gotta do:

- Press CTRL + SHIFT + C;
- Type: bb.moveobjects;
- Now that moveobjects is on, place the lot.

'There are still missing objects. Why is this happening to me?'
The person might have unlocked some career rewards you didn't OR used a cheat to unlock them all. You can just live without it... Just kidding. If you don't care about unlocking it by playing the game and want to use a cheat, here's what you can do:

- Press CTRL + SHIFT + C;
- Type: bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement;
- Now that moveobjects is on, place the lot.

'There are STILL missing objects. Why is this happening to me again?'
You have to check if the person used custom content on their lot, same for sims. If they did, you should download & install them or just replace the missing objects with cool stuff from the actual game.
