Hp Snmp Oid List
Does anyone have a ucd/net-snmp compatible MIB for HP printers? I downloaded one I dug up from a mailing list, but whenever I try to walk it I get: Bad operator. It is composed of PML commands and PML objects. Each PML object is associated with a unique piece of printer information. PML commands specify the way the objects are accessed. SNMP commands are used to remotely access the PML objects and are automatically translated into PML commands by the HP JetDirect networked print server.
I'm looking for a descriptive list of the MIBs / OIDs for HP & Aruba Networking gear.I can stumble around Google for each thing I'm interested in, but at the same time I may not realize I'm interested in something until I realize the device is maintaining a value for it.
I have access to tools like SNMPWalk from SolarWinds, but it doesn't tell me what the MIB is used for, just that a particular MIB exists and what its value is at the time. The other confounding factor to this from what I've read in some HP Forum posts is that values are periodically shuffled to another OID when a Firmware is released, so being able to reference a list of changes would be great too.
Current HP printers come enabled with the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). SNMP allows you as the network administrator or printer owner to configure printer settings as well as security using your desktop or laptop computer. Use of SNMP alleviates having to use the built-in menu configuration screen on the HP printer to conduct multicommand set-up steps on the small screen on the printer, making the configuration steps both easier to complete as well as giving you greater access to more complex printer configuration options.
Step 1
The best single board on multi os. Open the SNMP Agent application installed on your computer when running the HP printer installation software CD.
Step 2
Type the following commands in the console window visible on the SNMP agent to configure the HP printer to output log files and enable SNMP management of the printer: syslog-config: 1 syslog-svr: IP-Address-of-your-SYSLOG-server, or localhost set-cmnty-name: My-SNMP-Password (set this to be your desired password on the printer)
Step 3
Disable unnecessary services on the HP printer such as FTP, Internet Printing Protocol, and the Service Location Protocol to prevent the printer from being hacked. To do this, type the following commands in the console window of the SNMP Agent application: passwd: Your-printers-password ipp-config: 0 ftp-config: 0 ews-config: 0 snmp-config: 0
Close the SNMP Agent console window by selecting the 'FILE->EXIT' menu options of the SNMP Agent application. SNMP is now enabled on your desktop or laptop.
